The Church-School Connection

Our mission: "To help churches discover their own unique ways of demonstrating God's love through community service and ministry."

And what better way to do that than to reach out to the children and staff at your local school?

Partnerships are mutually beneficial...Each has much to offer.

Some of our churches have not only supplied school supplies, shoes, clothes, and incentive items but are currently sending weekly volunteers to be listeners and tutors to the children. Several churches have hosted staff appreciation lunches. One church even provided Thanksgiving dinner for the entire third grade class and its tutors. The list goes on...

Schools offer use of their facilties, entertainment, artwork, and even parent educatin programs.

The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Partnerships in Education Annual Report says, "Partnership activities are limited only by creativity and resourcefulness of the individuals involved. Often, some of the most valuable contributions are time, ideas, expertise, and inkind goods and services."

What can you do?

Step 1 -- Pray for this outreach program.

Step 2 -- Stop by the PMBA Resource Center, put your church on our map! The WSFC schools and the Stokes County schools are                             there but we need to "see" where the churches are located in vicinity to the schools.

Step 3 -- Call the school nearest you to learn about specific needs in the schools with your community. Consult the
Community Connections Missions Involvement Guide for a complete listing of schools with contact information.
If you would like a printed copy, please call the PMBA office at (336) 759-7622.

Step 4-- Gather a team of interested people at your church, even if it's only one person! Brainstorm for ways to partner.

Step 5-- Step forward in faith and serve. It's that easy.

There are many needs in our schools, with the greatest needs actually being in our middle schools and high schools. Often time, they are forgotten. Four of these have no corporate partners, and one school is considered a "last chance" school. There are several schools with 90 percent of their students on free and reduced lunches.

Volunteers are needed to act as classroom assistants, media center assistants, grade parents to help plan class parties, health room assistants, hospitality, fund raising activities, computer or lab science assistants, tutors, office assistants, and help with building and grounds.

Check the Community Connections Missions Involvement Guide for a complete listing of schools with their contact information. Counties covered in the guide: Davie, Forsyth, Stokes, and Surry.
