Fair Ministry Week

Join our team!  Help this year with the Dixie Classic Fair Ministry Week.

We need volunteers to work in the following areas:

Canteen:  Contact Barbara (767-0392 or 816-4375)
If you can work a 3 or 4 hour shift, beginning Tuesday, September 28 - Thursday, September 29, please call Barbara. Just because you have volunteered in the past, please don't assume we will have you down. We need you to call and confirm that you can work.

Medical/Dental: Contact Miki (377-2984 or 923-2429)
If you can help at the Medical/Dental Appointment Desk, please call Miki.  Most time slots are filled but there are still a few where volunteers are needed. We need people who are comfortable with taking blood pressure, temperatures, fill out a medical form and give out appointment cards.

Chaplains: Contact Ed Evans (924-8912) or Miki (923-2429)
If you would like to serve as a Chaplain, please call Ed or Miki.  Chaplains take water around throughout the fair grounds as fair workers are setting up the rides, games, concessions, etc. They take with them tracts to give out to the workers. A Chaplain needs to be comfortable with sharing his/her faith experience if they get in a conversation with a fair worker. Every year we have workers to make professions of faith. This is ideal for pastors, youth ministers, layleaders, etc.

Hispanic Translators: Contact Karen (759-7622 or 414-0812)
If you can serve as a Hispanic translator, please call Karen ASAP. We need several more translators to work throughout the week. We need translators to help the doctors/dentists. We need translators to work at the Canteen and to even serve as chaplains.

WHAT WE NEED

250 Health Kits still needed: Each kit should contain comb, trial size shampoo, small tube tooth paste, toothbrush, deodorant, regular size bar of soap, wash cloth, razor, rain poncho and new pair of white socks. Whether your Sunday School class can only do 5 or 10 health kits, they all add up!  We do have some tooth paste and toothbrushes, combs, and razors that you can pick up from us to add to your kits. Call ahead (759-7622) and let us know how many you need of each. Bring your health kits to the PMBA office by September 20, if possible. (If we should be fortunate enough to get more than we need, we will hold the others for the Prison Party.)

Blankets:  Every year we try to give each fair worker a nice new blanket. In the past we had a church that was so very generous to purchase new blankets for our fair workers. That was not possible this year. So, we need you to help!  If you have some slightly used blankets in excellent condition, please consider donating them to the PMBA Fair Ministry. If you would like to purchase a blanket or two, Walmart has twin/full size for a good price.

Bag Meals:Barbara Benge still needs bag meals for Tuesday and Wednesday evenings during the Fair Ministry Week.  Bag meals should have:  sandwich (ham, turkey, bologna, pimento cheese), bag of chips, piece of fruit (grapes, apple, orange, plum, etc.), dessert (cookies, cake) and a 3X5 card giving your church's name and contact information if the person needs prayer. You can print a Bible verse on the card.  Or, you can just put in a tract.

Snacks: We are collecting snacks for the Canteen. We need nabs, snack cakes, cookies, individual bags of popcorn, chips, granola bars, etc. You can purchase a large bag of cookies and place 4 - 6 in a snack baggie.  You can bring the snacks to the PMBA Resource Center, 1105 Long Drive, Winston-Salem 27106, Monday - Thursday, 9 AM - 4 PM or Fridays, 9 AM - 12 Noon.  Whatever you can donate will be greatly appreciated by the Fair Workers.

Drinks: We are collecting cases of water and cases of soft drinks for the Fair Workers. We are anticipating a hot Fair Ministry Week. The workers will be working long hours trying to get the rides up and the games set up. You can purchase cases of water at SAMS (Nestle's) for $3.98 per case of 32.  There are other places with sales on now, but this is the best price we have seen so far.

The workers also like soft drinks. We have found that they enjoy the Faygo Drinks (orange, citrus, and grape) better than most known brands. A case of Faygos at Sam's is around $5.00 per case. Off brand soft drinks seem to be the best choice for them. At least, that is what they have gone for in the past.

Monetary Donations:  If you would like to make a monetary donation, we will be glad to accept it!  The money will be used to pay for prescriptions, defray the expense of room/board for the bus driver and his wife, and pay for the use of the medical/dental van (approximately $7 per person) plus mileage for bringing the van to Winston-Salem. Make your checks payable to Pilot Mountain Baptist Association, 1105 Long Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27106. Please mark it for the Fair Ministry Week.

Contact Karen Taylor (759-7622 or 414-0812) or Harold Cox (978-3407) if you have any questions or concerns.  We look forward to another year of serving with you at the PMBA Fair Ministry Week.
